Archaeology: a rare 6,000-year-old funeral site discovered in Champigny-sur-Marne

Archaeologists have unearthed a rare funeral site dating back to the Middle Neolithic period, between 4750 and 4300 BC, in Champigny-sur-Marne. This discovery sheds new light on the burial practices of populations established in the Paris region six millennia ago.

The site is considered exceptional due to the state of preservation of the remains and the specific arrangement of the burial structures. Preliminary analyses are currently being conducted to better understand the social organization and customs of this ancient community.

This archaeological work, carried out as part of a preventive operation, contributes to a better knowledge of the historical heritage of the Ile-de-France region. Further studies will continue to document the findings of this site in the coming months.
