Archaeological Excavations at Dune du Pilat Amidst Coastal Erosion

The Dune du Pilat is currently the site of intensive archaeological excavations. This initiative comes in response to the growing threat posed by coastal retreat to the remnants of early human occupation identified at this iconic location.

For a period of three weeks, approximately fifteen experts and enthusiasts are mobilized to carry out these investigations. The primary objective is to document and recover as many elements as possible before they are irremediably lost to natural erosion processes.

Artifacts discovered during this operation will significantly enrich the collections of the future Pays de Buch Museum. These items will offer new perspectives on the ancient history of the region and human presence along its coastlines.
