American airman saved in Normandy, the memory lives on

On July 4, 1944, an American airman whose aircraft had been shot down found refuge and assistance with a farming couple in the commune of Hauville, located in the Eure department.
This act of courage and humanity allowed the airman to evade capture and survive during wartime.
The story of this rescue illustrates the solidarity shown by Norman civilians towards the Allies during the Second World War, thus contributing to the liberation effort.
Several decades after the events, the memory of this incident is still alive. The descendants of both the French and American families maintain regular contact, bearing witness to the lasting impact of this act of bravery and the importance of memorial transmission.
