Restored Wash House in Brest for Heritage Days

The La Carrée association has successfully completed the rehabilitation of the Pontaniou wash house in Brest, an urban historical site now ready to welcome the public. This wash house, notable for its two covered basins, offers a rare glimpse into daily life of yesteryear in a city context, contrasting with the prevalence of rural wash houses. Its restoration highlights a lesser-known aspect of local heritage.

This preservation project was entrusted to the association by the municipality of Brest, underscoring the importance placed on safeguarding these places of memory. The initiative aims to revive a space once central to the community, transforming a functional infrastructure into a place of discovery and learning.

The opening of this restored site is scheduled to coincide with the upcoming European Heritage Days. This event will offer visitors the opportunity to discover this unique built heritage, understand its social role, and appreciate the restoration work accomplished.
