Historic Sainte-Mère-Église Sign on Display at Airborne Museum

Historic Sainte-Mère-Église Sign on Display at Airborne Museum

An enameled sign, which marked the entrance to the village of Sainte-Mère-Église during World War II, has recently been loaned for ten years to the Airborne Museum.

This sign, considered a direct witness to the events of D-Day, had fallen into oblivion before unexpectedly reappearing at an auction in 2024. The municipality of Sainte-Mère-Église intervened to recover this historic item.

The presence of this item at the museum offers a new perspective on local heritage and on the realities of daily life during the conflict. Its exhibition allows for the presentation of an authentic object linked to the history of the liberation.

The Airborne Museum thus enriches its collections with a significant piece, recalling the importance of preserving artifacts testifying to the past.
