International research identifies 1,000 soldiers who died for the liberation of France

An international research project, led by the association La Percée du Bocage and Robert Curtis, has reached a significant milestone. They have successfully identified and located photographs for 1,000 soldiers of the 11th Armoured Division who died during the campaign from D-Day to the end of the war in Europe on May 8, 1945.

This commemorative work aims to put a face to the names of the men who fought and died for the liberation of France. The researchers relied on extensive international cooperation to gather these archival documents, ensuring the memory of these individual sacrifices is preserved.

The collection of these images serves as a tribute to the members of the 11th Armoured Division. This research effort highlights the importance of historical documentation in maintaining the collective memory of the Battle of Normandy and the liberation.
