Hill 112
Esquay-Notre-Dame
“Who holds Hill 112 holds Normandy” — the British ordeal of July 1944.
This unremarkable rise south of Caen was fought over for weeks during Operations Epsom and Jupiter. Thousands of British infantrymen and SS troops fell there under relentless artillery. A memorial, a Churchill tank and a memorial orchard now mark the windswept plateau.
