Montormel Memorial — Falaise Pocket

Hill 262, the Polish stronghold that sealed the Falaise Pocket in August 1944.

From the ridge known as “the Mace,” General Maczek's 1st Polish Armoured Division held out alone from 19 to 21 August 1944 against desperate German attempts to break out. The memorial overlooks the plain where the Battle of Normandy ended, with an outstanding orientation table over the battlefield.
