Nicknamed “Bloody Omaha,” this six-kilometre beach saw the 1st and 29th US Infantry Divisions land under intense German fire and sustain the heaviest casualties of D-Day. It is now a major place of remembrance, overlooked by the Normandy American Cemetery.
